there ain't no better way of starting a trip, especially on a very windy and cloudy evening after a hot sunny day preceded by a sleepless 12hr overnight flight, than buying a bottle of the cheapest local wine (R19.95 which is ca. £1.75) and drinking it on the beach with your friends.

drinking alcohol in public is illegal in south africa. especially on a beach (!), especially from glass (shock horror!).

security guards on the beach didn't really mind us drinking though.
